I’m not a big fan of covers. I like to compare the cover versions to the original. What do you think about covers? I recently found out that the song Baby Don’t You Do It, a bonus track on the reissue of The Who’s Who’s Next is a Marvin Gaye cover. Searching YouTube I found a handful of others. Which one do you like best? Check out the clips below.
Marvin Gaye
The Who
Black Crowes
Stevie Wonder
Small Faces
The Band
Feel Flows - The Beach Boys
Discovered this song in the movie Almost Famous. One of my faves.
Tonight I was st Vox Pop in Brooklyn. They had an evening called: Allman Brothers, Sistas and Muthas: A Night of Comedy & Music.
There was a band that played a mashup of The Allman Brothers version of One Way Out, and Stevie Wonder’s, Superstition. It was pretty damn cool. Wish I could’ve recorded it.
One Way Out was originally written by Elmore James. Its been recorded by Sonny Boy Williamson, and others but made popular by the Allman Brothers.
william: “so russell, what do you love about music?”
russell: “to begin with, everything.”
Watched Almost Famous again today. The directors “bootleg” cut. It never gets old. I love this movie.
Tattoo is off of the 1967 album The Who Sell Out
It doesn’t get much attention due to the success of the three albums that followed. Tommy in 1969, Who’s Next in 1971 and Quadrophenia in 1973.
The big hit off of The Who Sell Out is I Can See For Miles. It is a great album and worth a listen. Tattoo is one of my favorite songs from it.
