Ween now seems like a permanent fixture on the pop-cultural landscape, but when the band first hit MTV in the early ’90s, their longevity wasn’t so secure. Nearly two decades on, though, Aaron Gene Ween Freeman and Mickey Dean Ween Melchiondo preside over one of the most devoted cult fan bases in American music. So how exactly did Ween manage to transcend joke-band oblivion? One answer is that, in the years following their MTV breakthrough, Ween gradually polished their output, turning their staunchly primitive musical sketches into hi-fi paintings. Chocolate and Cheese, released in 1994, marked Freeman and Melchiondo’s first crucial steps in this direction. Based on new, in-depth interviews with both members of Ween, as well as producer Andrew Weiss and associates ranging from Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) to Spike Jonze, this book explores the song-by-song creation of Chocolate and Cheese and how the album served as a bridge between Ween’s original two-guys-and-a-4-track incarnation and the rich, virtuosic rock & roll force they would later become.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death. His music and message has truly had an impact on the world. I’ve always loved The Beatles and John Lennon’s music. In grade school I had a book, Beatles For Recorder. It was pretty awesome.

I saw The Last Play at Shea at New York City’s historic Ziegfeld Theater. It was a one night event across the country. The Last Play at Shea is not your typical concert movie. It tells a beautiful story that weaves together Billy Joel’s career, the history of The New York Mets and the history of New York, with a bunch of concert footage and interviews throughout.
I’m not into baseball but found myself enjoying those parts as well. So if you don’t like Billy Joe, I still recommend checking it out.
They have added some additional dates. If you can make it out I highly recommend it. If you are not able to see it at a theater, its coming to DVD in early 2011.

The Dead are giving away music all month!
FROM http://www.dead.net:
We’re on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we’re giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That’s 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We’re also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C’s, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic “comeback” tour from a spacey 70’s show? Each day we’ll post a free download from one of the Dead’s coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in ‘93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen’s harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you’ve answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!

This is a fun project that @bk_whopper started on twitter. Take the name of a band/musician or song title and incorporate a kind of food into it.

Weather Report - Birdland
Okay I was going through my records. So here’s summathat.
I tend to remember a lot of things about music. Facts and useless trivia mostly. But I can also remember where I was when I first heard a certain song, or where I bought a CD, or who lent me a CD or introduced me to a band.
All music is great but when music is connected to a memory or a place I think its even better. I was in college when I bought the Weather Report album Heavy Weather. Birdland is the opening track. It was at a Borders in Mt. Kisco, New York.
What music memories do you have?
If you could go back in time what band or concert would you want to see? if you can, what year?
Have a memorable concert story? Ever been to a concert where you heard something outrageous, funny, crazy, random, weird or just out of the ordinary? Have a great concert photo?
